By selling arms to Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Croatia has violated the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty which requires that prior to the export of weapons, a state must first undertake an assessment of the potential risks that the weapons sold will be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, and if the assessment determines that such a risk exists, then arms exports shall not be authorized by the State party.
The Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court asking it to assess the constitutionality of amendments to the Defence and State Border Control Acts which make it possible for the army to help police protect the state border in the current migrant crisis.
Centre for Peace Studies activists handed out a manifesto to ministers ahead of a government session on Thursday in which they protest against the organisation of a military parade in August on the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm, ask that the parade be called off, and say that a parade is not a dignified celebration of the operation.
