On 10 April 2024, the European Parliament adopted the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, a package of reforms expanding the criminalisation and digital surveillance of migrants. Despite civil society organisations’ repeated warnings, the Pact “will normalise the arbitrary use of immigration detention, including for children and families, increase racial profiling, use ‘crisis’ procedures to enable pushbacks, and return individuals to so called ‘safe third countries’ where they are at risk of violence, torture, and arbitrary imprisonment”.

Our first conference on migrant entrepreneurship that will take place in Zagreb, Croatia, on April 24th to 28th. The conference is organised by the Centre for Peace Studies in cooperation with the social cooperative Taste of Home and with the support of the US Embassy in Zagreb.
On 26th and 27th January, an international conference on the role of media, journalists and propaganda during the so-called refugee crisis took place in Prague’s conference centre Evropský dům. The return of a very large number of refugees from Austria to Croatia, as many as 1,700 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, has been announced. These are the refugees who came to Austria via the so-called Balkan refugee route.
