Weekend Session for the Empowerment of Migrant Women for Human Rights
The Centre for Peace Studies organised a weekend session to strengthen migrant women's capacity to self-advocate and self-organise to advance the human rights of all migrant women in Croatia.
The session brought together participants from different migration backgrounds through a series of presentations, interactive workshops, and open dialogues designed to foster shared learning, mutual support, and practical skill-building.
The introductory segment focused on mapping personal experiences of discrimination and identifying the roots of oppression — including gender-based, racial, ethnic, and other forms of discrimination. Participants explored how these experiences relate to existing national and local integration and anti-discrimination policies, enabling a deeper understanding of the broader policy framework that shapes everyday realities.
Building on this foundation, the program focused on developing concrete skills for effective self-advocacy and collective organising.
Key topics included:
Advocacy
- Understanding what advocacy is and exploring different advocacy models for achieving specific goals
- Designing advocacy campaigns through practical examples and situational exercises
- Using storytelling and building collaborations as powerful advocacy tools
Communication
- Developing public speaking skills
- Engaging effectively with the media
- Practical exercises on preparing for media appearances
- Drafting press releases and organising press conferences
Self-Organizing and Collaboration
- Planning and organising advocacy events
- Strengthening partnerships and collaborative approaches to ensure impactful and sustainable initiatives
We thank all participants for their openness, engagement, and invaluable contributions to a meaningful space of shared learning and empowerment.
