Campaign “Together for Equality. Report Discrimination and Hate.”
We all want the same thing: to be treated with respect and dignity. Regardless of our age, origin, skin colour, religion, identity, or health status. Most of us want to treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves. Yet reality shows
that we are not always treated equally. Some of us cannot find a job, housing, or a doctor because we belong to a minority, are considered too young or too old, or have a health condition. That is discrimination.
And discrimination is not just a personal experience of injustice - it undermines the very values on which our society is built.
That is why we are launching a public awareness campaign on racism, discrimination, and other forms of intolerance as part of the project FRED – Fostering Racial Equality and Diversity. Alongside the Centre for Peace Studies, the campaign is implemented in cooperation with the Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia, the Centre for Peace, Nonviolence and Human Rights Osijek, and the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR). The aim of the campaign is to inform, empower, and connect. Through short video messages and educational materials, we seek to explain what discrimination is, how to recognise it in everyday life, and how to protect oneself against it. We will provide information on where to turn for help, how to report discrimination, and which rights are guaranteed by law. We will particularly highlight the role of the Ombudswoman as the central body for combating discrimination in Croatia – an institution we can turn to when our rights have been violated. We will also emphasise the role of civil society organisations – associations that provide legal aid, counselling, and support to people affected by discrimination, and that are often the first point of contact, offering a space of trust and solidarity. Through this campaign, we aim to offer practical and accessible tools that enable us, individually and collectively, to stand up against discrimination.
This campaign is part of the broader efforts of the FRED project to contribute to a society in which equality and diversity are real values, not merely principles on paper. Through research, education, and the development of systems for reporting racist incidents, the project strengthens the capacities of communities and institutions in Croatia and Ireland to recognise and combat racism and discrimination. We invite you to follow the campaign, share its content, and join us in building a society where equality is not the exception, but the rule.
